Transformation Through Wax, A Contemporary Approach

Instructor: Els van Baarle

Supply List

• 6 or more yards of fabric, different kinds like: thin cotton, silk, thin linen, all natural fabrics, some light colored fabrics are OK; everything washed and ironed.

• tools for applying wax, old things from your kitchen

• tjanting if you have it (there will be tjantings in the classroom)

• brushes, inexpensive nayural hair for applying the wax

• brushes, different sizes for applying the paints and dyes, also sponge brushes

• plastic or glass containers containers for your dyes

• plastic gloves

• mask

• hairdryer

• pen, pencil

• masking tape

• embroidery hoop to practice detailed tjanting work

• if you travel by car, 6-weeks old newspapers for ironing out the wax

• a soft cloth (piece of old blanket) to make a small printing area on your table

• plastic to protect the table

• scissors

• plastis bags to take wet fabric home

Teacher will bring:
tjaps, tjantings

Teacher will buy:
wax, Procion MX dyes, chemicals and some painting inks

Materials fee will be $35 or less
