| Cecelia Durnin - The Heart Of Australia - Uluru (Ayers Rock) |

| Uluru was called Ayers Rock but the indigenous people renamed it. It is in the centre of Australia. We call it the heart of Australia. There is nothing else around it. Just this big red rock in the middle. I've never been there, but I'm told it is awesome. (It stands 348 m (1,142 ft ) high (863 m/2,831 ft above sea level) with most of its bulk below the ground, and measures 9.4 km (5.8 mi) in circumference.) Here's a story about this quilt. I sent the photo of Uluru to my mum in the states. She said I see a "fish" and I said "There is a theory that once it was covered by water but I didn't put a fish in it". She said "I see a black man" and I said "The aboriginies own the rock. I didn't put a man in it". Then she said "This is a very special and sacred place". I said "It is, its a very special, sacred place." It's funny she picked up on all this from a picture. Anyway I am known as a story teller in my group in Perth (I spent most of my life there in Australia until we recently moved to Melbourne). |
